Sejak hari Senin rumor pemecatan Moyes sudah kencang berhembus, namun kubu United masih belum memberikan konfirmasi langsung atas pemberitaan tersebut. Seperti dilansir Sports Mole, Manchester United mengeluarkan pernyataan melalui akun twitter resmi mereka yang menyatakan ucapan terima kasih atas kinerja yang telah diberikannya kepada klub. "Manchester United mengumumkan bahwa David Moyes telah meninggalkan klub. Kami ingin mengucapkan terima ksih atas  kerja keras , kejujuran dan integritasnya." tulis dalam akun twitter Moyes memecahkan rekor terbaru sebagai pelatih yang dipecat Manchester United sejak tahun 1986.
